Japanese Bitcoin Exchange bitFlyer Receives VC Funds from US-Based BOC

This week Japanese Bitcoin Exchange bitFlyer announce that had secured funding from Bitcoin Opportunity Corp in the amount of US$236,000.

BOC has invested in notable digital currency companies such as Coinbase, Xapo, BitPay, Kraken, and others, globally in countries such as the USA, Mexico, Sweden, and now Japan.

bitFlyer CEO Yuzo Kano noted in a release “Taking advantage of the knowledge possessed by BOC, we feel that this investment will lead to more than just a great partnership, but a positive step towards significant business expansion and service growth.”

He also indicated: “This fundraising deal will incorporate the first convertaible bond issue by bitFlyer. This investment scheme will enable investors to covert their holdings into future issued class shares, allowing for quick and efficient fundraising.”

Based in New York, BOC makes investments in Bitcoin, finance and e-commerce industries, with more than 30 companies in its portfolio. BOC CEO Barry Silbert is the founder of SecondMarket, an American online marketplace for buying and selling illiquid assets.

Silbert announced the amount on of investment in bitFlyer as $236,000.
